The Technology Center (hereinafter shortened as the Technology Center)of Chengdu Kanghong Pharmaceuticals Group Company, Ltd., is a “National-level Enterprise Technology Center” accredited by five state ministries and commissions including Development & Reform Commission of the State, Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Finance, General Customs Administration and the Taxation Administration of the State. The Technology Center consists of a Science Adviser Committee, an Academic Committee, the Center Office, and five technical departments, devoted to the research and development of new medicines in areas of psychology, neurology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and oncology. The technology center possesses a team of excellent specialists returning from overseas. In addition it keeps enrolling domestic young talents, thus forming a group of scientists and technicians to conduct research & development. They are all hard-working and have the most up-to-date knowledge for innovation. They comprise about 200 people, including 4 post-doctorate researchers, 12 PhDs, and more than 50 with master degrees. Among them, more than 60% have intermediate or advanced technical certified qualifications. The center makes the best use of the investment from the Group which keeps investing at a steady pace of increasingly high proportion of the Group’s total revenue. Thus the Center is now equipped with a wide range of advanced equipments for biomedicines, Chinese medicines as well as chemical medicines, including the state-of-art systems for protein expression and purification, high pressure liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, quantitative PCR apparatus, multi-functional measuring devices, etc. The center has kept the same pace with its counterparts in Europe and US in terms of research & development conditions and equipments. With various technical platforms established in addition to support of corresponding management system, the Center keeps pushing forward the technical development of new drugs. The center has developed a batch of new drugs with ownership of intellectual properties, which have achieved beneficial social and economic effects. The new drugs, such as Venlafaxine Hydrochloride Capsule” (Trade Name: Blossom) and “Aripiprazole Orally Disintegrating Tablet” (Trade Name: Brisking), have become the first-line therapeutics in the domestic market to treat depression and psychosis diseases. A natural herbal medicine called “Songling Xiemaikang Capsule” is our own patent-protected drug, which has been listed in the catalogues of national basic medicines and class-1 medicines for medical insurance because of its remarkable effects on the cardiovascular and brain blood vessel diseases. Our unique drug called “Yiqing Capsule” which originated in Zhang Zongjing’s “ Sanhuang Xiexin Soup” also has special effects on delivery of heat and elimination of toxicity. On top of that a dozen of in-research new drugs have either obtained approval for clinical trials or already started clinical trials. Among them, KH901, an anti-cancer bio-medicine has entered phase-2 clinical trial; KH902, which can effectively block the VEGF-mediated signal transduction as well as inhibit lesion neovascularization, has entered phase-1 clinical trial; W198, which has a reversal effect on the tumor multi-drug resistance (MDR), has entered phase-1b trial; KH903, another anti-cancer bio-medicine, has entered phase-1 trial in 2008. The center has kept developing synergy of production, learning and academic research. It has formed close collaboration relationships with more than 10 universities and research institutes at home and abroad. Several new drugs have been developed through our collaborative efforts. The Technology Center owns 61 patents, both international and domestic, among which 1 US patent, 5 PCI patents, and 4 national-level new drugs. In addition the center has collaborated with Sichuan University, Zhejiang University to win 3 research grants in the China’s National-level 863 Research Scheme and several science and technology grants from Sichuan Province and Chengdu City.
